So I was reading Gizmodo today and I saw what might possibly be the dumbest idea I have ever heard. It is a faucet that can dispense boiling water.

So I am thinking to myself what happens if you forget you set the faucet to boil and you go to wash your hands. You walk away with 3rd degree burns.

This will create an entirely new class of warning labels.

It would be cool if you had a special nozzle, like with a red handle or something, that dispensed boiling water. Like on the front of a coffeemaker, only even hotter.

I new sombody that had one of these oh...about 20 years ago.

It did have a bright red handle. And if you were dumb enough to burn yourself with it, then you probably deserved it.

It was awesome for coffee, tea, hot chocolate.. whatever.

Well, if nothing else it should make it a lot easier to spot heavy drinkers, the forgetful, or the just plain stupid.

At 180 degrees Fahrenheit, (82 degress Celsius) it take ONE SECOND to get third degree burns, 15 seconds at 133 degrees F (56 C), but five minutes at 120 F (49 C). This is very important to know when you are setting your water heater thermostat at home, especially if there are children at home. Never set it hotter than 120 F or 49 C.

By chance, can you modify your laser beam weapon to be affixed to the frickin' heads of frickin' sharks?

my parents have one of those things.

the boiling water doesnt actualy come from the faucet where the rest of the water does, its like on the side of the sink and its a small facuet that you have to push down for water to come out, it doesnt stay on by itself.

edited to say: its really freakin convenient, you just fill the pot and put it on the stove and its boiling.

One second is a pretty damn long time in terms of getting it on your hands. Non conscious reflexes would probably make you pull it out in less than half that time. And if you’re at the faucet anyway, you can run cold water on it, which, of course, decreases the severity of the burns.

I have been scaled by faucet water before. Especially in Amsterdam. CHRIST!!! Ouch oh god the pain is coming back to me. I have baby skin and burn way too easily. I prefer to take cold showers.

My faucet dispenses boiling water. Though I think it has less to do with technology and more to do with my building being crap in every way.

I have a little device next to my sink which does this. It cost like $20 and boils water in about 5 seconds, it is really convienient, I use it all the time. It only does a cup and a half at a time but it's usually all I need.

I think this is cool though probably best as a seprate faucet, of course I'm the woman who has her water heater set to near boiling anyway. I figure if anyone in my house is dumb enough to cook themself it is Darwin in action.
