Magic

Hmm...I don't know really. I've never tested out any of this stuff properly, the only thing I've done was fairly vague and didn't work, so I couldn't tell you for sure if that's the kind of thing a magician is supposed to come into contact with. I think when magicians (proper magicians, anyway) say they can come into contact with demons, what they mean is that they can take the idea of the demon and make it come alive. So there's the idea, except that the idea is both dependent on the magician's measure of imagination and willpower, and independent of it because it has some kind of self awareness of its own.

So you could say that the being is intelligent, non human and has perceptions beyond the 5 human senses because it's not part of the "real", physical world. It's alive, except that it's inside your mind, and in there rules are a bit more flexible. As for actually manipulating matter, space and time...I doubt it. I mean, if there were beings like that, and magicians could bind them to their will through magical means (re: demonology) then there would be nothing that could stop some bearded git from taking over the world. The current president of the US of A would be called Lord Zorg or something like that. Since we don't live under the iron fist of Lord Zorg I'm of the opinion that magicians can't do supernatural stuff in the ways you've described them.

Magic isn't all about making something physical happen. It's an invisible force in the world. It's one of those things that you have to have faith in, thus the basis of all religions and spirituality - having faith in what you cannot see, just because you haven't seen it, doesn't mean it isn't real.
